Celebration of Art in School

Greetings:

Last week, I was honored to be invited to show my work along with the works of Walter E. Baum (1884-1956), Melville Stark (1904-1987, a student of Baum's) and two sculptors. The exhibition was held at the Perkiomen School, an independent college preparatory boarding and day school located in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania in partnership with the James A. Michener Art Museum. The purpose of the exhibition was to celebrate art in schools, following Baum's personal mission to ensure that art had place in schools. Baum's works were exhibited in Carnegie Library on the Perkiomen School campus seventy years ago and a half dozen or so of his works remain in the school's collection. The opening reception was held on Friday evening and I thank all of you that came out in support of the continuation of Baum's mission.

Additionally, I was delighted to do a lecture / demonstration on Tuesday evening during which I discussed the techniques of drybrush as well as other aspects of life as an artist. The demonstration was well-attended and I thank all those who came out and especially those who actively participated with questions and comments.

Katy also did a lecture / demonstration last week, hers being at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Looking ahead, we are both hoping to spend some quality time in the studio now that the temperatures are cooling down and outdoor work is slowing down.

Always remember that the Hendershot & Krieg Studio in Hoppenville is open to the public by appointment; feel free to check in with an e-mail or phone call and stop by to see what's happening!

Until next time...

Brad

Thoughts from the Summer and Early Fall

Greetings from Hendershot & Krieg Studio, Hoppenville, Pennsylvania:

We hope that you had a wonderful and fulfilling summer. The beginning of fall found us finishing up another successful open studio/gallery on Monhegan Island, Maine. One of the highlights of our year is our annual trek north and reconnecting with dear friends and meeting new people to share stories and experiences. We are grateful for all of the new “adoptions” of our work into collections and homes across the United States and abroad. It is always amazing how such a small island can attract visitors from such a wide geographic area. This year, we were delighted to see a collector take one of our pieces to Zanzibar with him! Monhegan was as inspiring as ever and we both painted like crazy. Thanks to the beautiful weather, we painted ourselves silly and plein air paintings were coming off the easel daily. We had a really great time on Island and plans have been made for next year. Make your plans early and visit us in our island studio/gallery on Fish Beach Road next summer.

Late August and early September found us frantically putting the finishing touches on yet another two-person exhibition. “Times and Places” was be hosted by Patricia Hutton Galleries of Doylestown, Pennsylvania from September 16 through October 15. The pieces in this exhibition reflected the full range of our work from Monhegan Island to Pennsylvania, from still life to landscape, seascape, and beyond. Thanks to all who stopped by the opening reception or over the course of the exhibition.

Additionally, Katharine was honored to be invited as a guest speaker at the Meet the Artist program at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown in October.

Looking ahead, we are enjoying a spectacular display of fall foliage here in Pennsylvania where we are shameless leaf-peepers!

We’re hoping that this newsletter finds you well! Thank you for all the continued support and encouragement for our work.

Best Wishes,
Brad and Katy
